Marriott on the other hand has a hodge-podge of rules, no set standards and no system for enforcing whatever standards / rules that may exist. Having your cake and eating it too does not really work, even if cake is not an usual breakfast item.
To be fair, the published benefit (which you don't always get) at Marriott full service properties for Platinums and above is arguably better than Hilton Diamond's. At the Hampton/Fairfield Inn tier, perhaps Hilton is better but I'm not too familiar with Hilton's offerings there. The Marriott/SPG merger caused a lot, but not all, of these problems with inconsistent benefits.
