We spent 3 days at the Park Hyatt Kyoto towards the end of Dec. I booked cash rate and used a suite upgrade award so we were in the Park Suite, it's our 2nd time here. Last time was a more basic room. This was quite a bit larger.
The room is large and has a vert little garden you can walk out on - it's below the level of the path. If you want a suite with a view you need to pony up for a named suite.
It was right before new years so Yasaka was serving a special menu, so I went by myself. It was outstanding, the view is hard to beat. On my side the rest of the guests were not staying in the hotel. Though 2 ladies next to me from Singapore said they would next time.
Breakfast was uneven, and worse then Grand Hyatt Tokyo or Andaz. Mostly due to the time it took to get cooked dishes. I gave my feed back to the Director of Rooms who said he passed it to the right folks.
When busy you can easily wait 30+ mins. Andaz when busy wasn't that long and Grand Hyatt you could get most egg dishes by walking up to the chef stationed there.
And I had an issue when ordering an Omelet I asked for Ham, Onion, and Red/Green Pepper and I got Ham and Onion and a dish of ground black pepper, delivered with a laugh that if I need more pepper there's a grinder on the table. So I learned bell peppers is ピーマン (Pīman), and I used that knowledge the rest of the trip.
Considering everything else about the Park Hyatt was more international then any of the other 3 Hyatt's on this trip, this was odd.
We went to Takayama, which is a good walk towards the city center - it's a 4 hour Michelin Star experience, it would be 2 stars except for the length - it wasn't cheap but it was cheaper then Yasaka. I recommend checking it out if your in Kyoto and your a foodie.
We ate lunch in the Bistro (same place as breakfast) on 2 occasions and both times it was excellent.
We left the Park Hyatt on 12/30 as we'd been in Kyoto before for NYE and took the Thunderbird to Kanazawa.... Where we were on 1/1 at 4:10pm. And likely why I never got around to writing up my review here of Park Hyatt.
The Dir of Rooms texted me to make sure I was OK so that was awesome. I had emailed with him before our trip and meet him while at the hotel.
The Location is great, but we've stayed in Kyoto 4 times, 2 at Regency and 2 at the Park, This was our 5th time in Japan and I actually prefer Kyushu and all the places to visit down there to Kyoto now.
Kyoto is just too busy with tourists. It's nice that the PH is convenient to so many sights but that also means you step outside and there's so many people once you get off the property.
