Not airlines in general. This is mostly a ST problem.

It is a bit puzzling. It is the smallest alliance so you'd think they got the most generous benefits (like Hyatt does as one of the smaller hotel programs). But the opposite is true when it comes to lounge access. To be fair, the main perpetrator is Delta. And AF try to play it nicer, e.g., by alllowing access to their French lounges on a domestic itinerary (not a ST benefit).

But overall, not a good development. If the next change brings even more rules, we'll quickly be approaching the point where you'll need an advanced law degree to figure out whether you got lounge access.
