To be fair, Delta does the same thing. If you selected C+ seats and then drop/lose status before flying; there's a good chance any slight schedule/equipment change will knock you out those C+ seats.
It's the lack of notification that irritates me more than losing the seats. Though the seats thing is a jerk move. Even if DL does it too. "Choosing EMS seats at no cost" is the perk that requires status. Once they're booked, they're just seats. Also, there's no way to pay for those seats when booking with status. When you select them, it just says $0.00
