Smile The Cheesesteak Incident

The 12.15.04 issue (and why is it 12.15 and not 12.16????) editorial raved about how 'thick' the issue was because their marketing people had done such a great job, i.e., the more adverts we manage to sell, the more content we're allowed to publish. Wouldn't be so bad if all the ads weren't for overpriced condos in Miami. For comparison, look at the December issue of the QF in-flight magazine - at least twice the size, far better content, much more travel/food/wine oriented and generally a far better read than American Way. The 1/1/05 American Way editorial was all about how hard they all worked reviewing the Road Warrior entries ..... isn't that what the editorial staff get paid for? As for the "celebrity week-end/city" profiles, half the time I've never heard of the celebrities (my fault, perhaps....). The 1/1/05 issue had a reader letter complaining that the recent celebrity slot about Philadelphia didn't even mention a Philly cheesesteak sandwich ..... I guess that's what you get when you practice the "cult of personality" style of journalism, rather than having articles by people who really know the places they're talking about (on a practical level, not based on "I'm a celebrity - this is what I do"). As I said, I'm not a fan of AA's short-on-content, self-congratulatory magazine.

tt7-- LOL... I sent that letter! I'm on AA all the time and typically read AW mag as an alternative to doing work. I generally enjoy it, but you're right, the features can be way out of touch--- or at least I have difficulty relating. Anyway, the Philly one 'sans cheesesteaks' compelled me to write.

Squaredance guy-- I'm a newbie here, but did get mention in the RW piece. Coincidentally, the letter to the editor appeared in the same issue. Sadly, however, it's the 14th and my 15 minutes are almost over haha
