Turns out that if you don't keep the status, you don't keep the seats you booked using that status. After status matching in October, I booked BOS-LGW for this coming week, Selected the EMS seats at no cost. Didn't maintain the status and when I logged into my reservation today, it said "no seat assigned" by our names.
It's bad enough to take away the seats that were booked, but at least send an email advising that you've done so. Then I could have bought EMS seats or selected core seats. Now there aren't two seats together on the plane.
Kind of glad I didn't keep the status, DL is for all of their issues, just a much better airline.
To be fair, Delta does the same thing. If you selected C+ seats and then drop/lose status before flying; there's a good chance any slight schedule/equipment change will knock you out those C+ seats.
