Not true - I had a 2 hour delay on an Air France flight from Paris and went to get something to eat/drink from cafe. The cafe scanned the boarding pass at the checkout and there had been automatically credit applied to that BP that easily covered the purchase. Didn't need to even ask for it, credit was given without asking to all passenger
