One consideration, when considering a speculative transfer to a program that you seldom use, is that Delta miles do not expire.
This is a good point, I think I'm going to do DL as I know I can earl enough miles on them to know I'll get a redemption.

Yes, those rates are per person.
Caveat: the cheap redemption rate you are seeing with AA miles for a one-stop connection on AS/JL is due to the fact that JL often (but not always) releases a fair amount of J award space one-two weeks before departure. Without that partner award space, redemptions on AA metal can be much higher.
Agree the AA is a little unfair. Where we are in life means we're not going to jump on near-in bookings. I did a few searches going out 6-9 months to a few destination between AA, DL, and AS - while it's great you could get AA down that low (and you'll never get DL that low), all the retentions I saw were close enough (within ~100k) between the three.
