This option also increases the TPs awarded as it is two separate flights.
As far as 'surviving', I have done this trip many times, on different airlines, in both Y and J. Most recently was last month on MU in J. As mentioned above, take a change of shirt and underwear and have a shower at SIN. Makes you feel so much better. Minimal booze and sensible eating all help.

And as far as sleeping goes, I tend to use the departure time of leg one to determine when I first sleep, so for BA15, sleep a few hours after leaving. I then use the destination time of leg two for my next sleep, so on BA15 I would have a bit of breakfast, watch a film and then try to get some more sleep before the morning arrival into SYD. Given that you are unlikely to get more than 5-6 hours sleep on leg one regardless of the J seat, you will find your body will happily snooze for a few more hours on the latter part of leg two.
