But I believe the original form of the 24 month rules talked about having the exact same type of card. You would apply for an AA Platinum Select? and be approved, and Citi would auto-upgrade you in a month or 2 to a World Elite MC. And per their rules at the time, this allowed you to get another AA Platinum card. I'm only reporting how it worked, at least for awhile. Checking the time machine ... it's giving me TMI at the moment. I'll keep poking.
