It's strictly 3 hours, but on days where the JL42 (morning flight) is flying, they've let me check bags at that time even though I'm flying the JL44 (evening flight).
I just got turned down as an emerald first class passenger checking in my luggage in the morning for the afternoon flight.
Not to mention, the issue happened because they have downgraded my flight to one without first class. Hence, I had to move to an afternoon flight.
