That’s just process or paperwork. If you look at the fundamental engineering and product capabilities there isn’t a lot of difference. I’ve dealt with engineers from both companies and have friends who have worked for both companies, with my past background in aeronautical engineering. The products from both companies are safe, the airline industry safety record on average has never been better. There have always been problems and delays in the past, they are just more public now.

The engineering and business practices between Boeing and Airbus are not very different, no different than you would find in BMW vs Mercedes or IBM vs Dell. The products all have to meet the same customer expectations, certification and cost goals and use similar or in many cases the same set of components from sub-contractors for their industry.
