A related question. RUSH HOUR. I made the mistake 1 time using the subway about 9 am going towards central Tokyo. Never again. When is it reasonable to take the subway in the morning? I took the Ginza line 1 time about 7:30 am and not bad at all. Is the evening rush hour just as bad? In pre-Covid times in DC, reverse commuting was much less crowded compared to regular commuting.
Hi,

When I have been in Tokyo ( Conrad at Shiodome and Hilton @ shinjuku , I was generally at the station around 0930 and it was not too bad . Reverse commuting can work.
Depending on the location I found at some stations on the Yamanote JR line lots of schoolchildren got on )
I generally tried to avoid peak evening times ( 5-7pm or so)
In mid Jan I took the Marounouchi ( Tokyo metro red line) from Korakuen station ( Tokyo dome ) to tokyo station at around 7pm and it was very quiet
I also took the chuo rapid line from Shinjuku station to Tokyo station ( only 4 stops) around 6pm and it was very quiet ( trains heading the opposite direction to Shinjuku were packed)

Regards
