Reducing your excess to zero is usually setting money on fire,, especially if done through the rental company. Of course it depends on the vehicle and the length of rental, but a not untypical quotation would be £100 to reduce a £1000 excess to zero. Which is fine if there’s a 10% chance of writing the vehicle off completely during the rental, but not really otherwise.
