My only experience with a damage claim was five years or so ago. My rental car was broken into in Los Angeles. All I did was take the police report and car back to the Avis office, I filled out a short form, was given the keys to a better car and off I went. About a few months later, I received a very short note indicating that the matter was closed and looked forward to my using Avis again soon. My CC was never hit, my insurance company never informed. All good in my books
