I see the dates alignment more in keeping with any IT rebuilding that’s (apparently) going on. It must be an accounting headache to have 100s of thousands of customers all on different membership dates, I imagine it causes a lot of unnecessary data complexities as well as marketing issues. So if it’s to improve BA IT then hopefully this is a great move to enable better systems.
IF RBTP does happen, it will clearly have huge impact on their customer base, that’s just from the amount of posts on here! Many won’t be affected if it’s business flying and paid for by employers, depending on how it’s implemented. As for your leisure travellers, like myself, I’m most likely to lose out and any Bronze/Silver status I tend to achieve will no doubt be harder to do. Sadly.
I hope they don’t go down this model. But there’s clearly a need to change to ensure they can be more competitive in their product/service offerings. I’ve said it before but their current programme might be their own achilles heel, it’s been that popular that it’s become a burden rather than the main purpose of creating loyalty profitably. But that’s just an opinion. Interesting times ahead.
I personally think BA have a very competitive product and service offering there is zero need to change it as I see it and that does not cause them a burden IMO a loyalty scheme costs like to offer especially with how often BA exec club members fly and how much profit BA makes . I do agree that the main purpose is to enable a better system which I am sure makes sense to the vast majority of people. With Miles and More just going to the BA model and many other airlines following BA's model there is little need to change it. Leisure travel is a key market whereas business travel is likely to not recover to pre covid levels and one I am sure BA want to tap into and not lose people over changes to revenue based earning to other airlines especially within Europe where there is so much competition out there. The Amex offer I imagine helps BA very little and helps amex a great deal
