Sorry for all the questions but this is the first time I’ve ever noticed this happening.
As per BA's policy, all children under 12 will be seated adjacent to an accompanying adult - although depending on the class of travel and type of seating (e.g. in Business or First class on a long haul flight), that may mean across the aisle or in front/behind.

As per my post above (think we posted around the same time) it is applied at 72h40m before departure. If you have the cheapest Economy Basic fare (hand baggage only) then you will have to pay to change seats, otherwise you can select a different seat for free - although the point at which it becomes free depends on the fare you've bought.

The policy applies to all classes and all flights although clearly it is more valuable in (premium) economy than Business or First.
