Since we're debating the usefulness or usability of buses, allow me to throw in a comment on the little hyper-local microbuses
They also tend to run more frequently than many Toei buses, often every 20 minutes. OTOH they finish early.

That one was handy when I lived in Shibuya-ku - there was a stop right in front of my building, and it was very convenient for some destinations in spite of its roundabout route.
I'm not sure if we even have any in Shinjuku-ku.
