The downside you haven’t considered, which is the main one for me, is that it doesn’t cover bus journeys. Bus journeys are generally 200yen each.
Depending where you are based it can be a toss up between a Tokyo Subway ticket and a Toei 1 day pass, a savvy frugal visitor staying near a Toei subway station can alternate which to buy. And there is always the Toei bus pass (500yen for 1 day of travel) or the 72 hour Toei Starter Kit which is effectively the 72 hour Tokyo Subway Pass with 3 x Toei Bus passes already bolted onto it.

Google maps as a means to identify and catch buses has been a game changer yet most tourists haven’t yet caught on.
I am staying at the Sheraton Miyoka neat the Shirokanedai station on the Mita and Namboka lines. The 3-day pass is convenient for me. The fact that it is also cheap is a plus.
I would use the buses, but they all seem to feed into the subway and rail lines. Also, the subway train stations have more English than the buses I believe. Tell me if I am worong.
