If you plan to go to the pyramids, that will be a full day especially with a 2 year old. I would recommend getting an official guide. For an easily walkable and safe area in town I would recommend staying at the Sheraton Four Points in Roma Norte for easy access to restaurants, donut shops and candy stores, and several neighborhood parks, Parque Espana, Parque Mexico, Plaza Rio Janeiro, Condesa area etc, or a further walk to Chapultepec Park. Anywhere else just catch an uber which are very inexpensive. Have a good stay.
