Of course I avoid this by NOT traveling with checked luggage except in very rare instances
Still, Customs / Immigration should be an hour of less, and landside transfer should also be an hour or less, which would leave you almost an hour to check your luggage and get to the gate. I'd do it, and I am not really a risk taker.

How much more are the AA flights? With bags I would be very tempted to just go with AA to avoid having to schlep them landside over to E after arriving.
Also what class of service and do you have any status? I'm not sure if JL will check bags through across separate tickets (confirm over on the JL forum) but if yes then you could potentially get your bags tagged all the way to BOS so you'd just need to drop them back off at D after clearing immigration/customs.

Thanks all for your answers! I actually looked at the JetBlue site again and prices have jumped from $119 to $409, so my original question is kinda useless now. I actually think it may have been a pricing glitch of some sort, as the price was way lower than the days around it and I was looking at it at schedule open. (Yes, I'm looking at a flight on 12/31 already, so prices will likely fluctuate anyway, but good to get the knowledge now!) AA looks to be priced at $191 in basic economy and $236 in main cabin (so around double what I had seen on JetBlue!).
It does seem like from my preliminary research on the JAL forums that they will try to tag them all the way through to BOS if I do end up with an AA flight - I'll keep it in mind. I also do not have GE, but I think I could get it by then. Might be helpful since I have another international trip in May anyway.
Still, it seems like if I can do it in three hours, JetBlue has the best timing for me so I'm not stuck at DFW for longer than I need to be - I land at 7:35am and looks like AA only operates DFW-BOS either before 8:30am or after 12pm. Won't complain too much with access to the CapOne lounge though if I end up going with AA. I'll keep monitoring it but I truly appreciate all of your help!
