Not defending EVA but if you're willing to stop and transfer on the West Coast, then you likely have a number of upgrade options, EVA included. I understand your point but you can't really compare flights in that way, and I'm sure EVA doesn't either.
I get your point - but I figured LAX or SFO to TPE wouldn’t be any easier than ORD? ORD is consistently half empty for business class whereas LAX and SFO are usually more full.
