We've never been to mexico city but are spending a couple days there before heading to chile. It will be my wife, 2 year old and myself. Looking for an area near touristy things, great restaurants and obviously safe. Just not sure where to stay. Only thing for sure is we want to do the pyramids but if i'm not mistaken that is not in the area we would stay anyway? Ritz and St Regis probably out of budget but looks like the Sheratons and the like are pretty reasonable.
If you plan to go to the pyramids, that will be a full day especially with a 2 year old. I would recommend getting an official guide. For an easily walkable and safe area in town I would recommend staying at the Sheraton Four Points in Roma Norte for easy access to restaurants, donut shops and candy stores, and several neighborhood parks, Parque Espana, Parque Mexico, Plaza Rio Janeiro, Condesa area etc, or a further walk to Chapultepec Park. Anywhere else just catch an uber which are very inexpensive. Have a good stay.
