Hi everyone. I think the answer to this question is no but I wanted to turn to the experts to get your opinion. I am AA gold through status year 2025 (ending in March) and just got the offer to buy up to Platinum for approximately $1,650. Below are some travel habits that may be helpful:

1) I do about 10 roundtrips/year
2) I am DCA-based so upgrades as a platinum will likely still be tough
3) I rarely check more than one bag
4) International is once/twice per year, likely on BA

I have almost always been able to secure a MCE seat at check in, though admittedly it would be nice not to have to stress about that on key routes like to/from DFW and MIA.

i don’t know, it feels like at the end of the day I would be paying to have the bright orange tag affixed to my luggage tag but perhaps I am missing something?
