If they can't support themselves or their family on what they make, perhaps this was a sub-optimal career choice for them. But it is their choice. No one's forcing them to become cabin crew.

That said, of course they should be treated respectfully. Their employer should stand behind them on that.
Knowing several FAs, They went into this for the flight perks.
