Hi All,
I was able to speak with SAS via their chat. The person I chatted with was able to enter in my 9 digit KTN (letter/numbers) manually. She said I was good to go- though I could not see the entry in the information section we fill out prior to flying. I am guessing she entered it elsewhere. I asked if I could request it at the time of check in (I check in at the ORD SAS counter), but she said I could either use the chat function or call SAS direct to get it entered. I mentioned to her about the fact that I indeed did enter the number/letter format KTN myself last fall, that maybe IT could look at that entry point and make allowance for letter/number combinations. Regardless I will ask the person at the check in counter when we check in if they can add the KTN if needed in case SAS does not accommodate the TSA PreCheck numbers/letters format.
Nick Art - it appears as though folks with Global Entry/ TSA PreCheck may have a different 9 digit format (all numbers?) verses folks like myself that have only TSA PreCheck (9 digit numbers/letters format) . I checked the TSA website for airlines participating in TSA PreCheck and indeed SAS was included on that list. Odd that they are in that program but do not make accommodations for the 9 digit numbers/letters format.

Here is an excerpt from a Jan 2024 article for a popular airline travel magazine (not sure if it is acceptable to link so the excerpt) describing the KTN programs (and the use of digits).
