IMO the increased engine noise in row 9 helps drown out some of the galley noise and thus mitigate one of the biggest downsides to row 9 for me. But on my most recent trip in row 9, the engine noise did seem louder than I recalled from several previous flights. Maybe I'm just getting old and more sensitive to loud noise.
