They are certainly within their rights to determine their T&Cs, but they must make those clear to consumers so that we have full knowledge prior to purchase. That is the gist of my complaint that I am making to the AG.
Besides the fact that the AG would not be the appropriate entity to complain to, this is why tickets purchased in the US can be cancelled without penalty within 24 hours.
You did not ultimately suffer any harm.
If you want to complain (to the DOT) about AA’s lack of transparency, maybe focus on how they bury the fare rules and actually important elements thereof, like refundability. That impacts everyone not just the 25 people who buy AA codeshare flights in J on QR each year.
