I really hope I never find myself in a position where I'm worrying about good versus bad McDonald's. That said, the whole point of chains/brands is an expectation. No one ever said "I want a hamburger, want to go to McDonald's?" No you say "I'm feeling McDonald's". Same with hotel brands. I choose on comfort/price but I calculate comfort based on brand. If I can't rely on the brand, I avoid all of them not just that one as it defeats the point of brands.
It has been like that for more than 35 years ago. I used to live in Hong Kong and our local McD was one of the worst we have tried, so we avoid it like a plague.
Marriott is losing its brand standards - think about the thread here I started regarding how different hotels define free breakfast. The fact that we have to contact each individual hotel regarding their breakfast definition is just unacceptable.
Remember, we are not Marriott's customers, the hotels are.
