Because this is the callcenter mentality. If you give pax an authoritative answer, they will leave happier than if you tell them you don't know. Even if it's a wrong answer, as long as it doesn't hurt them too much.
I very much agree but mostly it is obvious that they have no clue about even basic things and this guy was even able to answer my questions convincingly. But yes, that is why you should never really trust what they tell you and go to FT...
