Just a quick update. Despite what I was told I was indeed able to check in to the flights, provide the API, select seats and get electronic boarding cards for the first two LH legs.

Don't know why he would tell me otherwise with such confidence.

But very please that it worked. Had been preassigned row 90 and was able to move to row 65 on the long leg so that was nice.
