In general, AA seems to not want you to do that because they added the rule that the traveler’s name needs to match the account holder’s name. Hopefully someone will have data points.
Yes, as I just posted, 100% efficacy for me.
You're not changing the name of the reservation. You're just asking the FD person to add your wife's name, so when she gets there they know it's legit. She will still have to present a credit card in her name and her ID, but that still won't change the name on the reservation.
