This is totally fair (both to you and the poster you quoted), but goes back to mental overhead for me. My default rideshare app is Lyft with charges going through my CSR which basically gives ~15% cash back for all rides. I'd have to either (a) permanently switch payment methods at the expense of 15% cash back or (b) remember to switch to the Delta card once per month to get the benefit. There is no world where I exit the CSR ecosystem (unlike the Delta one, the point rewards are actually good from it), so it is mental overhead or loss of value (I spent $500+ a month on ride share so 15% return is higher value).

If it works for folks, great. But for me - the card benefits have just become too complex to use. The same thing happened with the Marriott Brilliant card that I cancelled. Used to be easy: I use the Brilliant card at Marriott hotels (which would mean I would get the Marriott hotel statement credit easily) and would try to use the free night certs if I could. Then they changed the statement credit to dining. So great, now I have to remember to use the card once a month to eat. Mental overhead. No thanks.

If it matches your spending pattern already, fabulous. But with benefits being dolled out monthly on so many cards (or with bad options.. like Delta Stays), it is too complex to use the benefits unless it is already your default card (which Amex Deltas should never be unless you really, really need the MQDs).

Or, of course, some people may like optimizing to the max and like the game (we are on a FF forum after all). But for me it is now just too much work - it is not like the old days where it was a once a year statement credit or whatever.

This is all by design. The more complex to use, the less use there is... which means more retained profit from the annual fee.
