Street food, farmers markets, gratuities, small out-of-the-way diners and the occasional donation to a homeless person are all times when cash is very handy.
I'm extremely unlikely to do any of these, which is probably why I have been able to use only cards in the UK for a very long time now.
(I do have an emergency tenner, which has remained untouched for a year.)
