Admittedly, it's cr*p in a myriad other ways.
When you’re in your mid 80s, dragging your wheelie bag on a train isn’t very appealing. I suggested the bus to them which is actually quite convenient but they didn’t like the idea. Also, another reason not to take Ryanair — if there’s any delay/cancellation eligible for UK/EC261 I suspect getting them to pay is worse than getting blood out of a stone.
And Ryanair seems to offer two options: check a bag up to 20kg and bring a carry on up to 10kg. Not sure if that’s gives enough wiggle room for carryon weight (and presumably they have swingeing penalties for exceeding their size/weight limits too)…
