Forced manual check-in?
Hi. I'm flying out of Denmark this weekend and via Germany to Thailand on LH with family.
I have been trying to submit advanced passenger information (passport info etc.) online but it would not save whatever I put in and I received no explanation.
Customer Service was very unhelpful. I then tried calling the IT service and they told me, somewhat convincingly, that we had been randomly selected by the airport for manual handling meaning that check-in, seat selection, passport information etc. all has to be done manually at the airport. Billund is the worst and slowest airport in Europe and this will take forever but the most annoying part is that we will not be able to even select seats until we are at the airport. I was told that this is fully airport controlled and that LH can do nothing.
I fly quite a bit and have never heard of this before. I am aware of SSSS in the US but this is a trip to Thailand via Germany.
Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing and is there any way we can select seats when check-in opens (without either paying an extortionate amount or going to the airport)?
We have *Gold (2 of 5 pax) but I am pretty sure that does not help.
