I have the same question! Glad to hear an experience of the benefits continuing.

(I believe the system makes no distinction between an elite choosing a free-upgraded seat vs having a non-status customer pay for a seat. The system uses the same seat-selection or seat-upgrade flow for both customers, and merely attenuates the fee for the elite. I believe it's the same idea for bags.)

Time to book a few tickets.
