As someone who's earned Platinum the hard way ... I have to admit that I'm a bit peeved at the 'buy up' offers. In all honesty, these WS buy-up prices mentioned in this thread frankly seem ridiculously cheap to me -- and make me think it'd be easier for me to just fly WestJet a whole lot less, but then throw them a few hundred bucks to just buy my status instead.

The prospect of even more more Plats and Golds - who didn't put in the flying that I did - is a bit frustrating. The Zone 1 boarding line on some flights already seems to be half the aircraft, and there's already so much competition for the very few open Premium seats that upgrades are few and far between. And, at YYC's Int'l/Transborder premium check-in line, good luck ... it's already often super long (and super slow) with only one or two agents handling an already-large number of 'elite' customers who need help. Selling Platinum or Gold to even more people for just a few hundred bucks dilutes it for everyone.

As for the value, it's tough to say what a status buy-up is worth. But, as reference, United just offered me a chance to buy up from my 2024 status of UA Silver to UA Gold (a special, short-term deal, they claim) ... for a whopping $4600 USD. I declined.
