Annoying Seat Change Issue
Hello everyone, my wfe and I are booked on the BA2707 LPA-LGW on 11 March. We booked (and paid for) seats at the same time as we booked the flights on 23 March 2023. We booked 3D and 3F, we booked seats specifically because this tends to be a busy route in CE so it was unlikely there would be much of a choice if we left it until check in opened.
This PM I received a note that our seats had changed and to check MMB. When I did check MMB we had indeed been thrown out of 3D/F but not allocated other seats!
When I first checked after receiving the message row 2 was available at a further charge (only £4 each but it's the principle), or alternatively row 7 and 8 were available at no extra charge but bearing in mind that they were cheaper to buy in the first place I'm not surprised.
I did try ringing BA to argue my case that they should give us row 2 at no extra charge seeing as the change was at their instigation, but after 30 minutes I gave up especially as two of the seats in row 2 went as I was holding. It's not that £8 will break the bank - t won't, but it's the principle.
My question is does anyone have any idea of why we might have been thrown out of our chosen seats? Unlikely to be a tech issue this far out and doesn't appear to have been an aircraft config change.
Is it unusual to have a seat change without having new seats allocated when there were seats available?
For future reference could I / should I have handled this differently?
