Thanks. I did give Eva a call and the only date that still had one z availability fell just right outside of my travel window and I don’t have much flexibility there unfortunately. Basic PE seems to be upgradable with miles based on what’s stated on the Eva website, but I believe it’s only applicable for using Eva miles within their infinity program, not for SAUA.
I think I’m leaning toward booking an Economy B and just keep trying my luck with SAUA via the United website hoping they will release more award seats for SAUA closer to departure, and if not, I will then try the cash bid last minute or pay the fare diff to upgrade to PE.
I double checked and this is not upgradable according to EVA site even for Infinity Mileage Members. I have used PE fairly often and used to upgrade and I always had to use PE Standard to upgrade to business class.
That said PE is fairly good and if you are traveling alone, I would suggest the last row in PE on the aisle in the middle 4 seats. The reason for me is that only once did I get someone sitting next to me and it was a family of 3. The rest of the times, the next seat was empty. This was a 777 by the way. Or you can try at the airport to see if there are seats available but I do not know if they would do that for SAUA but for Infinity Mileage they have done for me many times.
