Just checked the comment section of DoC's write up on this 1099 fiasco. Yes, it is a fiasco because of so many nutty items show up on the 1099s.
Copied and Pasted a few on the front page comments (in descending order, i.e. the latest being the first at the time I read it)

#1789268I received a 1099-MISC with two line items from chase today.
1) $200 line item for the Amazon card promo. This one I understand.
2) $593.75 line item for a Disney Premier card promo where I only received a $300 statement credit in exchange for spending $1000.
I spent 3 hours today between being on the phone with chase reps and at a branch where they also talked with people on the phone and not a single person of the 10+ They bounced me around to is able to tell me why this Disney bonus was reported as income, and why it doesn’t match the $300 statement credit received.

It got one from Chase for $466.32. Must be for the Boundless 5 free nights.

#1789169I’m getting $190 on my IHG Premier, and as far as I can tell,
not sure where the first $100 are from yet, but I got a $90 retention on my $99 fee. This is just nuts.

Michael Could this be the GE benefit? A reimbursement of the $100 GE application fee?

#1789158This is both interesting and frustrating at the same time. Somehow I got two 1099’s in my name.
One had $351 for the Marriott 5x FNCs. (How did they come up with that number?) the other 1099 had $400 for an ink referral + $60 for a UA explorer retention offer (statement credit). Absolutely ridiculous.

Rocky Top My 5 FNC were valued at $499, how did they just pick random amounts for these?

#1789046Received 4 separate 1099s today. One each for me and P2 for Ink referrals.
Also one for $461.21 (!) for Marriott 5 night certificates. Can’t figure out the last one…$50 for Hyatt personal with minimal spending. Maybe it was for the annual free night?
