You always earn points on dollars spent during awards stays.

Were the charges applied to the room?

Check the math on the “points activity” because the way it’s typically posted isn’t intuitive. For example, if your total points spend for the room was 100,000 points but you earned 30,000 points from $3,000 in spending, the “points activity” for your stay will show -70,000.
