In the middle of another double roundtrip PNH-SGN-DOH. This time I was armed with both Cambodia (2) and Vietnam (ME) e-visas. I was offloaded on my last trip in Doha.
Found some interesting information I will share.
1. The PNH station didn't check for visas during the initial ticket in. Just like last time. I was issued the boarding pass to DOH without showing any visas.
2. DOH wasn't going to issue a boarding pass to SGN without a Vietnam visa. I didn't provide it to them at first. I wanted to see if they would ask for it. Then I handed them a copy of the e-visa and was issued the boarding pass to SGN.
3. The supervisor at the SGN station said you don't need a visa for Vietnam if you are traveling without checkin bags. It is only required for passengers with checked in bags. He laughed about it when I told him my experience before being offloaded. He said you'll need a boarding pass and then use the transit area at SGN. But good luck getting a boarding pass! DOH or the QR app aren't going to give it to you if your nationality "needs" a visa for Vietnam.
4. I noticed they are cutting back on the food service from the last trip. No full breakfast but only a beverage and cookie. They ran out of food on mt flights to DOH. Things are changing.
Qatar is a mess. I had a last minute (within hours of the flight) equipment change and lost my Q-Suite seats from DOH-SGN-DOH. I received an email that said I could do a flight change to enjoy Q-Suites. But when I asked, they said no Q-Suites are available anytime soon. So they offer you a flight change by email but there is no availability.
I met some great people on the flights and the FAs are fantastic. So that makes it all worthwhile. And of course, the miles earned.
