No one I am aware of opened and earned on multiple AA accounts.

Citi AA mailers could be used by anyone multiple times (at least certain types of them). People did this, Citi kept approving them, and depositing miles.

AA--not a party to this at all--decided to close down accounts where Citi was distributing miles that Citi paid for.
