You are always going to be charged the "correct" number of points for the upgrade when calling Flying Club. Where you might get lucky is avoiding the extra cash co-payment. (not that I've seen anything to corraborate [MENTION=113538]RAPC[/MENTION]'s comment)
Airport upgrades are all about the relative emptiness of the premium cabins and whether Y is full or oversold... You are guaranteed to be disappointed if you rely on airport upgrades regularly.
