The 3-4-3 seats on the 777 are so narrow and poorly designed it's making me reconsider travel plans when other things are equal. On last night's Paris flight I struggled to sleep and it was the same last time on a long-haul to the U.K.
Specifically, though, I wanted to call out how bad the exit row seats are, especially the blocks by the window. The central block of four seats at least have screens and USB chargers in front of them, alongside stowage. The window seats have stowage at least. But the middle and aisle seat in those two blocks have no stowage and the seat is so tight I gave up even trying to locate the USB charger in the dark, while the control being on the inner side of the armrest means that it is hard to take it out and put it back in, in a seat with no room for comfortable manoeuvre. To top it all the sprung lid on the arm makes it hard to do something involving two hands e.g. lifting something off the table and folding the table to put it away. Given the lack of stowage that's an issue.
I know Cathay has long form in dreadful economy seats but these are the worst ever and the benefit of sitting in an exit row (which still exists in terms of legroom) is significantly diminished because of it.
