UA's largest plane, the 777-300ER, has 60 J seats, and that's probably a more comparable plane to DL's A350, even though it doesn't quite have the range of the A350 and 787. On US to JNB routes, UA and DL have to fly whatever plane can make the distance (and particularly the return with JNB at high altitude), but if you're looking at non-ULH routes, UA will use the 777 and DL will use the A350 on major hub-hub routes and the most important / premium business markets that are served with less frequency (i.e. not EWR/JFK to LHR which is better served with higher frequency and smaller planes) like ATL-ICN or SFO-HND, so the right comparison should be this high-J A350 vs UA's 777-300ER, which only makes the comparison more stark
UA's J cabin is much denser than DL's new J cabins (A359/A339). DL gives passengers more space. So of course UA has more seats, they are closer together
