I don't actually think you need to deplete your GoH awards first. I think you can book using your points, and contact your concierge and explain that you'd like to make this for your parents using a GoH.

I was able to do this using a reservation I had made in 2023, so not exactly the same situation, but I think they might treat yours the same way. Plus you get one EQN out of it.
