Because rather than getting hung up on the silly semantics of how AA brands its awards, I assumed what OP really cared about was "When is the best time to find availability of award space at less than extortionate pricing?"

Related question: doesn't AA award space booked by Oneworld partners still require inventory in T class (for coach cabin)?
