Just had a fantastic 5 night stay at Hyatt Ziva Cancun! This was my first Mexico AI resort (only other comparison is Alila Ventana Big Sur, which is very different), so I was a bit apprehensive going into it, but I absolutely loved it (and now want to go back every year haha).

I booked on a points/cash rate for 4 nights for 29k each (pre-category changes) and 1 night for $680 USD. I also applied a SUA successfully to the Club Ocean Front Corner Suite, which was a ridiculously beautiful room. Highly recommend trying to get this if you can! Had a phenomenal view of the ocean and south beach. You also had some windows that could see the north side of the resort (including the dolphin area), so it was easy to see which side was more crowded, windy, etc.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the greatest, though I feel like it was pretty par for the course - very windy every day and quite overcast. It never really poured, but it did rain a few times, and the wind got to the point where the building was creaking and such, which was a bit disconcerting at times. However, 80-85 degrees each day was wonderful and much appreciated coming from the Midwest where we had a whole week of subzero temperatures!

The room itself has 1.5 bathrooms, and the half bathroom is actually still quite large. The amenities in the room were amazing - huge TVs in both the living room and bedroom, though I will note that the couch didn't have pillows, which made it a bit uncomfortable to use when watching TV. My partner and I loved keeping the balcony door open and letting in the humidity and warmth, but the AC worked very well at night to keep the room cool. I also loved that the room was dead silent and had pretty great soundproofing + blackout curtains. The dual vanity was a bit small but still very usable for two adults. The shower was a huge size and very luxurious with ample water pressure, though I did have some issues with the temperature that I'll detail later on.

The food was all fairly decent! I'm a pretty big foodie and I set my expectations pretty low, so I would say it was about what I expected. My favorite meal was actually at Lorenzo's, the Italian restaurant, and I was pretty disappointed by La Bastille, the French restaurant that you have to dress up for.

The night shows were fun but pretty typical "cruise"-style shows - a lot of dancing, singing, and lights. It was pretty cool and generally fun to stop by and watch for a bit. Kids seemed to love it.

One small thing I really appreciated was that they had a cool Globalist ribbon set up on my room's door! Hadn't seen anyone mention that in previous reviews, but that was a nice surprise. They also set up a ribbon for anniversaries, birthdays, and any other events. I was surprised by the lack of Globalists - walking around, we only saw one other room that had the Globalist ribbon on it!

Another thing I didn't see anyone comment on is that you can actually purchase pesos from the front desk! We ended up buying 1000 pesos from the front desk, and they just add a 6% surcharge. A bit steep, but can be worth it if you need it in a pinch. The ATM on-site does NOT distribute pesos, and only gives you USD.

The only cons I can think of (and these are truly as nitpicky as can be):
  • The shower temperature kept fluctuating! It would go from scalding to lukewarm and back and forth. Very strange issue, and hopefully just room-dependent. I was in Room 1506, which is actually the highest floor you can get the Ocean Front Corner Suite on, which I really appreciated.
  • One of the curtains in the bedroom's lowering mechanism broke, so we just kept it lowered the whole trip. Not a huge deal, but we did ask them to fix it, and they didn't really try very hard...
  • There are only 2 elevators for the club tower, and when the cleaning staff is going through in the early afternoon, the waits can get pretty annoying.
Otherwise, the whole property is beautiful and exactly what a great AI resort should be. Tons of activities to keep you entertained, clean facilities, and just an overall great vibe.
